Some singer/songwriters (think Paul Westerberg and Elliott Smith) develop their world-weariness through the unforgiving trials of passing years and the heart-breaking grind of the music business. Others (Van Morrison, Neil Young) seem to have sprung from out of nowhere with the fully formed soul of a life well-lived. Ray LaMontagne belongs with the latter. On this, his debut, LaMontagne has crafted a handful of quietly devastating meditations on life and love--and delivered them with a raspy vocal all his own. The simple, mournful lyrics of "Burn," "Shelter" and the title track recall a Hank Williams ballad, and the reserved production by alt-country/americana genius Ethan Johns (the Jayhawks, Ryan Adams, Kings of Leon) make this a great disc for smoky Saturday nights, and rainy Sunday mornings. --Ben Heege

Ray Lamontagne together with producer Ethan Johns (Ryan Adams/Kings Of Leon) has produced one of the solo albums of the year with the majestic 'Trouble'. Recorded at the Alley & Studio 3 at Sunset Sound in Los Angeles, 'Trouble' is a truly collaborative e

    Bad Vinyl Experience2010-09-063 / 5
I also have the CD version of this album, my complaint lies not with the content. I'm not sure if the problem is the Sony Legacy label, or the actual company that pressed the record, but there is no reason why a record of this stature shouldn't come on 180 Grams of Vinyl (poor business decision-Sony). Also, the record was dusty right out of the sleeve and the edges were poorly smoothed (poor quality control-record presser). In all i found the record to be a flimsy experience that wasn't worth the premium. Maybe other Vinyl fans haven't found the same problems, but for me i was definitely disappointed in my purchase.

    Hold You In My Arms...2010-06-204 / 5
I happen to be changing the channel on the tele. when I heard this awsome song! It was playing in the backround of a movie called,"She's the Man." I thought, that is soooo lovely I gotta have it! I first looked under the movie soundtrack itself and it was not to be found. uggghhhh! I then thought ok, I will google it. Low and behold, I found this wonderful artist! When I heard his voice I thought this vocalist is one of a kind. I think of Natalie Merchant, or Sade. I think of Nora Jones and Bob Dylan. This I will share with friends and family and will keep my ear to the ground on this gem that I have found in this artist! I now love Ray Lamontagne!
