While director Jeannot Szwarc's 1980 time-travel romance nearly drowned in a sea of its own bathos, the score of the Christopher Reeve/Jane Seymour vehicle has become something of a word-of-mouth classic. Chalk that status up to the great English composer John Barry, whose lushly romantic score has largely overshadowed the film it was written for. Note to Titanic fans: if you liked the score for that film, you may fall in love with (or to) this one as well. Ironically, much of the action of Somewhere in Time takes place in 1912, the year the Titanic sank. --Jerry McCulley

| | The CD arrived and I could hardly wait to play it. As the music soared throughout the house it was so hauntly beautiful and relaxing. I have always loved music of all types, but this just was exceptionly moving. I would highly reccomend it to music lovers anytime. |
| Beautiful, Haunting Score To A Well-Written Romance. | 2010-08-07 | 5 / 5 |
| | The 1980 romance "Somewhere In Time" is a well-crafted and perfectly cast time travel romance that, sadly, didn't get the premiere it so richly deserved upon its release and as a result, went largely unseen. The score for this movie is every bit as magnificent, beautiful, haunting and timeless as the movie itself. John Barry, known for his scores of the James Bond movies up to "The Living Daylights," does a masterful job of composing a beautiful, haunting, magnificent and timeless music to this movie. Christopher Reeve, Jane Seymour (a Bond Girl; she asked John Barry if he would write the music for this film and he agreed, when the director said he didn't know if they could afford to ask him because of their budget, as Ms. Seymour wanted Barry to write the music) nd Christopher Plummer star. "Beyond obsession, beyond time itself...he will find her." |

| The above adjectives would be how I would describe this stunning soundtrack.
This music is precious to me because it was so very precious to my late grandmother. I remember watching the movie with her many, many times. Initially, as a young man, I was drawn to the science-fiction element presented in the movie, my grandmother Ruby, thought the love story and the acting brilliant, but what she especially loved was this music. Later I realized how special the film (and how exquisitely gorgeous Jane Seymour is/was!)and it's score is.
When my grandmother died this music resonated with a far deeper meaning, so much so, that shortly after her death I heard the title theme while shopping for a card in a Hallmark store and broke down crying. It hit me that powerfully. That was over a decade ago and I must admit as much as I cherish this music and as beautiful as it is, it is very difficult for me to listen to without shedding tears.
However, don't let that scare you off. This is just simply beautiful and worthwhile. There are some things in this life that are so fine and so enriching that we become better for encountering them. I firmly believe this music, this art, is one of those things... |
| A wonderful, haunting score by John Barry | 2009-11-27 | 5 / 5 |
| | The sound track of this film has been in my mind since I first watched the movie several months ago. The CD goes everywhere with me in the car and somehow all the other CD's I have now pale in comparison. I cannot get the music out of my mind and every time I listen to it, I can relive the scenes from this wonderful film whose scenes blend perfectly with the music. The score and the film are the result of a labor of love on the part of John Barry and the cast of "Somewhere In Time" as there was little support for this film which had a very limited budget. |

| I visited Mackinac Island in 1979.When I saw the movie,it tore at my soul and I never get tired of it.The words and music expressing their desperate love,at all costs,is something that is better than anything in life.To really feel love,is really worth more than all the money.I imagine we all have felt this way, maybe once or twice in our lives.Such a great movie.Words can't express how much I like it.
